Mitigation and Sentencing Advocacy
Laurie assists criminal defense teams in learning about their client's lives, and presenting that information in creative ways to judges and juries. She works as a mitigation specialist in state and federal criminal cases. This work is grounded in principles of cultural competency, and an awareness of the effects of trauma, mental illness, and intellectual disabilities on the lives of clients.
Defense Victim Outreach (DVO)
Laurie assists criminal defense teams in reaching out to victim family members in order to minimize trauma and identify needs that may be met in the course of criminal cases. She works as a dvo in state and federal criminal cases. This work is grounded in principles of restorative justice.
Please note: Laurie does not work as both a mitigation specialist and a defense victim outreach specialist in the same case.
